Heal our home
Religion is not all about consolation. It also contains a warning intended to shock us out of complacency. The prophets often delivered divine oracles that roughly translated as “all is lost.” When it comes to the urgent science of climate change, it may sound like the hurt suffered by our planet is incurable with creeping desertification, pollution of rivers, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, and the increase of natural disasters. All, however, is not lost—yet. But the poor stand to lose first. As a recent papal document says: “If you want to cultivate peace, protect creation.”
TODAY’S READINGS: Jeremiah 30:1-2, 12-15, 18-22; Matthew 14:22-36 or 15:1-2, 10-14
“For thus says the Lord: Your hurt is incurable, your wound is grievous.”
