Summer Endeavour in a Redemptorist Volunteer Experience
S.E.R.V.E. is an opportunity for 6 young men and women (age 18-30) to deepen their Christian Faith through fostering a sense of mission, service, prayer, and spirituality in a Christian Community rooted in the Spirituality of St. Alphonsus Liguori and the Redemptorist Charism. Through common prayer, community living, spiritual formation, opportunities for service in social agencies in Toronto, Eucharist, discussion and social activities, participants will discover Christ in themselves and learn how to bring Christ to others. S.E.R.V.E. began on May 1st and continued until May 22nd.
We are greatful to the different agencies who received our participants this year: St. Felix Centre, Romero House and Our Place, and look forward to working with them in the future.

One thing that SERVE has taught me is to “Let go and let God”. I came into SERVE excited but also with some doubts. However, I feel that in the past few weeks, I have really learned to trust God more and allow Him to send me to where it is in His vineyard that He wants me to serve. I have also learned to let go of my doubts, fears, self consciousness, biases, or whatever and to just allow God’s love to work in me and through me as I am of service to others.

S.E.R.V.E. has been a wonderful experience. I have learned so much about community, service and prayer. I will take what I have learned here and apply it to my life back home.

SERVE was an awesome experience. The program is rooted in community prayer – starting our day with prayer & coming together to pray after we arrive home from the apostolates. My experience at my volunteer placement showed me that service to others can mean taking the time to understand what someone who speaks another language is trying to tell you, or it can mean steam cleaning upholstery, or it can mean preparing a pancake lunch. I highly recommend SERVE to any young adult seeking to grow in understanding and faith.

My experience on S.E.R.V.E. was incredible. I never grew up with so many sisters. Being here showed me what it was like.
It was worth getting up early to pray as a community.
Being at my apostolate I know made a difference, and you can too.by Paul Aussenegg about 95 days ago
Being part of SERVE kindled in me a new sense of my faith life and the desire to explore prayer more deeply. Having the opportunity to be of service to the apostolate with a partner who was also living out “community, prayer and service” really made the experience one of sharing, growth, and self-awareness. If you want to revive your faith through prayer, service, friendship and true belonging, be part of SERVE.

The S.E.R.V.E. program takes the Catholic faith out of the pews and into the streets. Through the many facets of S.E.R.V.E., each firmly rooted in its three pillars – Prayer, Service, and Community – young people get to experience another side of their faith. We are called not only to witness to Christ in others, but to witness Christ in others. That is the crux of the S.E.R.V.E. program – it’s the world as usual, but viewed through the eyes of Jesus.
